Do I need a Personal Customs Clearance Code (PCCC)?
Yes. A PCCC is required to file an import declaration for directly purchased goods. It's used in place of your resident registration number to verify your identity. You can get one by entering basic details such as your name and mobile number at the Korea Customs Service issuance site (p.customs.go.kr).

What's the duty-free threshold?
USD 150 or less. Under the Korea–US FTA, clothing purchased from the United States is duty-free up to USD 200.

I bought clothing and food from the US for USD 190 and still got taxed. Why?
The USD 200 exemption covers clothing, electronics, shoes, bags, and toys. If your order also includes health-related items — health functional foods, foods, pharmaceuticals — the lower USD 150 threshold applies to the whole purchase, even from the US.

I went slightly over USD 150. Why is the entire amount taxed?
Travelers' accompanied baggage is taxed only on the amount exceeding USD 600. Direct purchases work differently: once the value exceeds USD 150, duty applies to the total value of the goods, not just the excess.

The item was USD 140 but local tax was USD 14, and I was charged duty.
The dutiable value includes local costs — tax, shipping, insurance — so USD 140 + USD 14 = USD 154, over the threshold.

Can I resell duty-free items in Korea?
No. The exemption is granted on the condition of personal use. Reselling domestically can lead to prosecution for offenses such as duty evasion.

How many bottles of health functional food can I import without MFDS review?
Up to 6 bottles. Patients buying them for treatment of an illness may import more than 6 with supporting documents such as a doctor's note.

Are BB guns permitted?
Firearms and imitation firearms require approval from the National Police Agency. If you're unsure whether an item qualifies, check with the police before purchasing.

Are there limits on electronics?
For electrical appliances, one unit for personal use may clear customs without separate approval.
